Now with Ambient Sensor!

September 13, 2013

Hey backers!

A few days ago we announced that we would be adding more modules. We're proud to say the first reward for backing us is the addition of an Ambient (Light/Sound) sensor as a Class A module.

(Stunning! Shiny! Sensitive! As always, get yours here!)

The Ambient sensor can detect sound, IR light, and visible light and can emit IR light:

The microphone is optimized for detecting the ambient noise level in a room or building a sound-activated device.

The ambient light sensor and can be used both for detecting fine-grain brightness in a room as well as for communication via IR.

The IR LED can be used to communicate with other Tessels or other household electronics.

We have more tech in the works, as well as some cool demos coming up! If you have any projects you're thinking of, let us know on Twitter @technicalhumans or Facebook.

Thanks again for backing us! Stay tuned for another update on Monday.

Tessel is 208% funded! So what's next?

September 11, 2013

Hello Dragon backers,

You guys are amazing. We're astounded by the incredible amount of interest we've seen in Tessel on the web, on blogs and social media, and in the hundreds of interested emails we've received. More telling, you guys have helped up blow past our initial crowdfunding goal of $50,000 in our very first day, until now where we're at more than 2x what we needed to deliver on Tessel.

As our first backers and our biggest supporters, we're making sure your support is reflected in how we're building the Tessel (and embedded JavaScript) ecosystem:

  • Hardware design docs. We've already seen some custom Tessel modules, and so we're releasing official design docs to help anyone wanting to dig in to the technical details: https://github.com/technicalmachine/tessel-design-docs Be aware that some hardware may still be in a state of flux. If you're thinking of making a module let us know! We'd love to talk.
  • New modules. We've heard what projects you're most excited to use with Tessel. Shortly we'll be announce new modules which you can pick from, including everyone who's already backed a module tier. If you've backed a Master Pack (and there are many of you) you're in luck: instead of just nine modules, we'll let you select any ten of the modules we release by the end of the campaign.
  • Software libraries. We're starting to open-source our module libraries on our Github. You can check out an example here: https://github.com/technicalmachine/climate-s17005. We'll show you soon how to get use out of these without even using a Tessel!
  • And more to come...

As always, we appreciate your support and telling other people about Tessel! The bigger the interest, the more valuable we can make the ecosystem for you guys. You've helped make this possible.

PS: If you haven't yet, make sure to check out the other Dragon campaigns!
